Spring Break Ideas for Group Travelers

Spring Break Ideas for Group Travelers

After the cold, dark days of winter, Spring Break is a long-awaited getaway for many families and friends. And to beat those winter blues, most groups head to the beach, escaping to the sunny sands of an all-inclusive resort.

Part of the allure of all-inclusives is the diverse experiences. Active travelers have on-site activities and water sports, complete with poolside DJ sets and all-night parties, while those seeking rest can lounge poolside with a cocktail or unwind with a spa treatment.

Families also love that many all-inclusives have water parks and even supervised kids clubs, so parents can get some rest, too.

Whichever type of trip you’re looking for, this guide will give you some of the best all-inclusive resorts to book and what to expect at each of them. Read on to see suggestions for all-inclusive trips, as well as tips on how to plan a group trip.

Need to Know

Most all-inclusive resorts are in the Caribbean and Mexico. You’ll find they’re almost always beachfront and include food, drinks and a variety of activities. Be sure to book well in advance, however, as many all-inclusives fill up quickly during Spring Break months.

All-inclusives are not a one-size fits all, so check that the resort’s vibe is what your group is after. There are many destinations geared more towards families, while others are adults only. Some are more upscale and mature whereas others are known for an energetic, party atmosphere.

If you’re taking a group trip, it’s helpful to designate a group leader. This will be the point person to help streamline decision making and keep everyone informed.

  • What is included: Most all-inclusive resorts include accommodations, meals, drinks, activities and entertainment. Suites and specialty lodging may sometimes include more. Gratuities are also often included, but double check — either way, tips via small bills for exceptional service are much appreciated by staff.
  • What is not included: Typically off-site excursions, spa treatments, motorized water sports, premium alcohol, specialty restaurants and golfing will not be included. This is again resort-dependent, so confirm before booking.
  • Transportation: Most all-inclusives do not include transportation but may offer shared or private transfer options. This can be booked through the resort or separately. You can also rent a car to explore surrounding areas, or even take a taxi.
  • Best time to visit: These resorts are typically located in areas with year-round warm weather. Be aware of hurricane season (lasting from June through November) affecting many of these areas.
  • Ideal length of stay: Spring break trips typically last four to seven days. It’s plenty of time to enjoy everything all-inclusives offer without feeling rushed.
  • What to wear: Resort casual wear is common, from shorts and dresses to swimwear. Check specialty restaurants for possible dress codes, and pack accordingly to avoid surprises.
  • Dining reservations: Some resorts will require reservations to be made everywhere, others will require them only at speciality restaurants. Check policies and reserve spots as soon as you can — some allow pre-arrival reservations, while you have to wait until arrival at other venues.
